Gold is overrated and Tiger is bannedWith the Winter Olympics at a close, I'm going to miss waking up at 2am to the sounds of ice skates or crunching snow on my television. Despite the USA hockey team losing to Canada, we have all agreed that curling is the new sport of choice for the Sports Dealers. We are going to start our own curling team! So watch out! In case you have been living under a rock. . . The USA men's hockey team was defeated, in OT, to "the inventors of hockey", Canada! What a shock! Now don't get me wrong, I was absolutely rooting for the USA team and truly wanted them to destroy Canada, but this was basically a JV vs. varsity game. Most NHL hockey players are not from our homeland, so therefore they are all playing for their own countries, IE. CANADA! So the USA team is left with very few pros. and college players? Impressively, the USA team beat Canada once and put up a hell of a fight for the gold. So hats off to the USA team! Congrats on silver! (Gold is overrated anyways) I think I can go on and on with all the exciting news the Olympics brought us, so congratulations to all of the USA athletes! and Thank you for representing our country in such a great fashion. It is offical. Tiger Woods has been banned from Sports Dealers! Unless.. Unless.. Unless: He publicly reads verbatim and apologizes to the world (instead of just his wife), he has been seen or is physically back on the green, dropped from a sponsor, or HE IS THE FATHER. Otherwise we are done talking about Tiger on the show. March Madness is beginning and Nascar Fantasy is only getting hotter. Stay tuned to the show, M-F from 3-5 PM, for all your latest sports news and gossip. Give us a call and tell us your thoughts! 614-333-5300! The deadline for the players association and NFL owners is growing ever closer and the "word on the street" is not good. The uncapped could quite possibly be the end of the golden age of the NFL. At the absolute highest point of the NFL's popularity, who get't the biggest pile of money looms over the games future.
Small market teams like Jacksonville and Green Bay have already expressed fear for their future and the other owners are listening. Both teams are saying that their profits have decreased by more than 43% and saying salaries are the main reason. Players are saying that the NFL has reported the highest ratings, and growth in the leagues history's. So to take a 17% pay decrease doesn't make sense to them. If you were a player, wouldn't you. All parties here can learn from what the NHL went through a few years ago and find a way to work this out. One thing the players can give into is the rookie saleries being capped. Paying rookies that have not proven anything at the highest level getting paid the highest amounts in money leaves the owners taking all the risk. And in the end game, makes teams like GB and Jax have to release proven players, to sign rookies, and quality suffers. We will get into more of this on the air at . 2-3pm. Toon in baby, it's balls out! Snowy Days and HolidaysIs the snow ever going to go away? We do apologize for not being live for a few days in the last couple weeks. Columbus has been taken over with horrible weather. Hopefully this 3rd storm we got today will be the end, and can have some sunshine headed our way! Happy Valentines day to everyone! Great weekend for valentines day and the sports world! The Winter Olympics have officially started, Nascar season has finally arrived, and the NBA all star game made me feel like I was watching the Pro Bowl again. This week I will be giving the gang our official points results for Nascar Fantasy. This weekend Nascar broke in their 2010 season @ Daytona on Sunday. What an amazing and long race! The beginning was exactly what Nascar haters describe Nascar as. . . BORING! With 2 Red flags and a handful of cautions, I was expecting for a boring and disappointing finish. After 6 hours of racing and waiting around for the track to be repaired, Jamie McMurray makes for a win and an on your toes, exciting finish. Of course the Daytona 500 wouldn't be the "grand daddy" of them all, without an edge of your seat ending! After 4 long years the Winter Olympics have begun in Vancouver, Canada. All week we will be talking about the weekly events and keep you updated on all of the USA medals! While rooting on our USA team! Football season is officially over. Now we can finally get serious about basketball. Not very impressed with the NBA All Star game Sunday. Don't get me wrong, it was very enjoyable watching all the big named guys show off their moves, but that was more like a Harlem Globe Trotter's game. No Fouls, No hustling, No emotions, Not a real game! Much like the Pro Bowl, it was just a bunch of all stars showing off for fans, making MORE cash! Now that the All Star break is over, its time to get serious and focus on the Finals. . . .. . . . Cleveland! Pretty exciting week for Sports Dealers. I welcome you to join us Mon.-Fri. 3-5 pm Tell us what you think. . 614-333-5300 "This is the way I see it, its the way its done"- AW
Another Week
Well this weekend we had some great college basketball action and now it is Sunday and it is Super Bowl time! I predicted the automated Madden score 35-31 Saints take the championship. Well at least I hope so for a city who has been through so much with Hurricane Katrina and the horror all the families had to go through in that city. Go Saints! Moving on to next week, we should have two special guest on the show. We will have Vince Papale Tuesday, he was the 1976 Eagles walk on and the oldest non kicker rookie in NFL history. It inspired the movie Invincible with Mark Wahlberg, where a teacher and bartender of a place called Max's decides to try out for the Eagles under coach Dick Vermail and makes the team. The other guest lined up for this week will be Paul Keels, the voice of the Ohio State Buckeyes! So great shows lined up for next week, do not forget to check us out on ustream.tv Monday through Friday, 10am to Noon! Well I am going to go enjoy the Super Bowl, see you this week!
Free for All Fridays!!!!
Well, It's gonna be one of those "free for all fridays" again. When, every single show turns on it's ear and things happen that certainly wouldn't happen any other time. It's a mish-mashup of all the show's throughout the day. Why does it matter so to speak, it doesn't. But it sure as hell is good radio, fun to do, fun to listen to, and hell, if you always have a chance to share your opinion by calling 614.333.5300.
Today at the end of the "Highlight Reel" and " the Buckeye Show" Joe McCarthy, will be singing his "favorite" team's fight song. Brandon from the Highlight Reel and Joe from the Buckeye Show made a bet based on the outcome of the OSU/WVU basketball game last saturday, you can guess how it turned out. So today Joe is gonna be singing the WVU fight song and it should be great. CBJ Raquet is winding down in it's current format, and we wish nothing but the best for one of the nicest guys I've met at ScoreonAir.com, Dan Colley. He graduates very soon, and we wish him nothing but the best. Check out his last friday show, Today. NFL Chalk Talk is gonna be as loose as possible today. More SB 44 talk, blah, and Pro Bowl being a load of crap.... Vick in Buffalo?? Didnt we already hear this story???? Tim Tebow invades Pro Talk, and who are the best RB prospects in the draft? Our Draft Guru, Josh Powers himself will give us the 411. Tune in for the first half of ScoreonAir.com's day. 10am-3pm, or just 2-3 if your picky. LISTEN UP! ATTENTION AMERICA!
Hello people of America and welcome back to another edition of the Highlight Reel blog. This weekend was one my best predicted weekends in sports in a long time! Saint win and the Colts win making this Super Bowl one of the best match ups in years. Two great quarterbacks will square off to prove who is the champion of the NFL. We will get into this in great detail in weeks to come.
I would like to thank everybody who has been apart of this show and the listeners for making this show number one on scoreonair.com. Tune in all this week for great sports action and we might just throw a little humor in there as well. The one thing I look forward to is watching Joe from the Buckeye Show singing the Mountaineer fight song. Hail West Virginia! hahaha. Brandon scoreonair.com End of an Error!
Well 1 week left on the show and it was great. See ya next week for the end.
"The Cpt." The One with the Most to Gain is....
I am a huge Ohio State fan. This is no secret. Brandon Lowe, executive producer of 'The Highlight Reel' is a huge West Virginia fan. This is no secret as well. The two of us have made a bet on the air and will discuss tomorrow. Should Ohio State beat West Virginia, Brandon will be forced to come on The Buckeye Show and sing the OSU fight song. Should West Virginia beat Ohio State, I will be forced to come on The Highlight Reel and sing the WVU fight song. May the best OSU basketball team win
NFL playoffs
Boring, predictable, and just about as entertaining as watching professional golfers watch the grass grow before tee off time. What is this I am talking about? The NFL playoffs of course! This weekend I was hoping for some playoff magic or at least some hard battled games. It seemed to me like we were watching the Bearcats and Gators play every game I watched this weekend except for the Jets and Chargers matchup. Let's go into each one and just find out exactly what I am talking about, shall we?
Everybody thought since the Cardinals last week put up 50 points that they would have to come into New Orleans with some momentum. Wrong... Drew Brees, who should of been named league mvp came out on fire and ended the game with 23/32 247 yards and 3tds not to mention Reggie Bush who decided to actually play this game pulled out the most yards average by a rusher per carry in a single game since the Super Bowl era. Kurt Warner who is suppose to retire after the playoffs really did not stand out until he got laid out after an interception he threw trying to make the tackle. Warner tried to comeback into the game but later left due to the school being so high and the fact that they would like Warner to walk to the Hall of Fame and not roll his wheelchair up to the ceremony. The final score of this retarded matchup was Saints 45- Cards 14. The Colts and the Ravens, the most hyped up game of the day. Before the game and of course in the media world everybody was doubting the Colts because of all the time the starters have taken off to rest for the playoffs. Wrong again sports world, I really do not know how many times these people could be so wrong. The Ravens who destroyed the Pats last week and just put on one hell of a defensive battle came into this game and let Manning do pretty much whatever he wanted but still put on a good effort never the less. The second thing is that when looking at this match up you think about the comparison of the defenses- Colts- weak- Ravens - strong. Not the case here, the Ravens put a field goal in the 1st quarter and never landed another point the rest of the game making Joey Slacco throw 2 picks no tds but at least he threw more than 4 passes. Not to mention holding the "awesome" Ray Rice to 67 yards and no tds. Hats off to the Colts defense for out playing the Ravens for four quarters and giving yourself a 20 to 3 win. Now let's talk about the domination by the oldest quarterback to start a playoff game and win it, of course we are talking about Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. The next match up would be the choke artist Cowboys and the Vikings of Minnesota. Don't cha know? Let's start wil Favre, 4 tds 234 yards passing on 15 attempts, were the Cowboys defense even out there. We can not give Favre all the credit considering he had another great performance out of one of the best receivers in the league Sidney Rice who caught 6 passes for 141 yards and 3 of Favres td passes. Jumping off the offensive of wagon, let's just go ahead and say that the Vikings defense completely shut off Romo by getting to him on several occasions and never letting him get comfortable as Romo ended the season with 22/35 198 and 1 int performance. The running game was never effect as well and that 12th man aka the purple dome-ination was stunning. Vikes win 34-3 over the Cowgirls of Dallas. The most exciting game of the weekend goes to: the Jets and Chargers. The rookie Mark Sanchez finally got comfortable in a hostile enviroment and lead the Jets on two drives to the end zone to push them past the Chargers 17 -14. Got to give a big thumbs up to the Jets defense as well really taking it to the Chargers offense in the second half, gaining two picks in the second half one leading them right into the redzone to start the drive. The Jets won two playoff games since 1982 and also became the second team with a 9-7 record to beat a 12-4 team out of the playoffs. The biggest factor to me was the missed field goal from 40 yards by 12 year old Nate Kaeding not to mention the other two he missed earlier. You put 9 points on the board and the Chargers would of won this game, not to mention a lot of laundry on the field for the Chargers as they had 10 for 87 yards. This was my pick up game, not going to lie I was kinda asleep all weekend until this game came on. I will post another blog on Friday to give my predictions and comments on the upcoming NFC championship game between the Vikings and Saints. As well as the AFC championship game between the Jets and Colts. Brandon Lowe, Executive Producer - Highlight Reel ScoreOnAir.com Tennessee and American Idol. . .Two exciting days in the sports and reality tv world! We had an exciting cast join us this week so far. Thanks to the Situation, Dollie, Chocolate Chip, Colin, Jared, Keyon, and Mike for being on the show. Lane Kiffen ditches Tennessee for USC? What about Pete Carroll? A few coaching changes happened for not only college football but for the NFL as well. Pete Carroll is heading to Seattle to coach the Seattle Seahawks. While Lane Kiffen heads to sunny California to take the role as USC's new head coach. Do I smell drama cooking up in the future? Congratualtions to Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans and Charles Woodson of the Greenbay Packers for NFL's newest offensive and defensive players of the year! Alot of news coming out of Tennessee this week so far. Looking forward to what will come next! We touched a bit on new reality tv starring professional athletes. Pretty interesting!Only a few more weeks left til the Superbowl, until then the American Idol try outs began. The crew chatted it up while I was in a meeting. Darn . . . Reality tv seemed to bring out the best of our favorite athletes. Exciting week to come! Feel free to call in and tell us what you think! 614-333-5300 "This is the way I see it, its the way its done"- AW
